Privacy Policy

1. About this policy

Rocket Battery (“Rocket Battery”, “we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to handling your personal information responsibly. This policy explains what we collect through rocketbattery.ca, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

We are based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan has no general private sector privacy statute, so our handling of personal information is governed by the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

This policy applies to the website. It does not cover information you give us in person at the store or over the phone, although we apply the same principles to that information.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

Enquiry and battery finder forms. When you contact us or use the battery finder, we collect the details you enter, which may include:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your telephone number
  • Vehicle or equipment details, such as make, model, year and engine
  • The content of your message

Account information. Some pricing on this website is visible only to registered customers. If you create an account, we collect the username, email address and password you set, along with any details you add to your account profile.

We do not take payments on this website. There is no shopping cart or checkout, and we do not collect credit card, debit card or bank account details through the site. Purchases are completed at the store.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, our web server and any analytics tools we use may record:

  • Your IP address
  • Browser type and version, and device type
  • The pages you visit, and the time and date of your visit
  • The website or search engine that referred you

This information is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses:

  • Essential cookies, which are required for the site to work. These keep you signed in to your account and remember basic preferences. The site cannot function properly without them.
  • Analytics cookies, [if used: which help us understand which pages are visited and how visitors move through the site].

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, parts of the site, including signing in to an account, will not work.

Embedded content

Our Contact page includes a map from Google Maps. When that map loads, Google may collect information about your visit, including your IP address, under Google’s own privacy policy rather than ours. We have no control over that collection.

3. Why we collect it

We collect personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, and we identify those purposes at the time of collection. Specifically, we use your information to:

  • Respond to your enquiry and help you identify a suitable battery
  • Confirm availability, specifications and pricing for you
  • Create and manage your account, where you have chosen to register
  • Keep a record of our correspondence with you
  • Maintain and improve the website, and keep it secure
  • Meet our legal and record keeping obligations

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade it.

We will not use your information for a new purpose that you have not been told about without asking you first, unless the law requires or permits it.

4. Consent

By submitting a form on this website, you consent to us collecting and using the information in that form for the purposes set out above.

You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Contact us using the details in section 11. If you withdraw consent, we may no longer be able to respond to your enquiry or maintain your account.

[If the client sends marketing email, add: Where you have asked to receive updates or offers from us, we will only send them with your express consent as required by Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and every message will include an unsubscribe link that works for at least 60 days.]

5. Who we share it with

We share personal information only where it is necessary, and only with:

  • Service providers who operate the website and our systems on our behalf. This includes our web host, [hosting provider to be confirmed], our email provider, and [analytics provider, if used]. These providers may only use the information to perform services for us.
  • Professional advisers, such as our accountants or lawyers, where necessary.
  • Authorities, where we are required or permitted to disclose information by law, for example in response to a court order, a subpoena, or a lawful request from a government or law enforcement agency.

We take reasonable steps to ensure that any third party handling personal information on our behalf provides a comparable level of protection.

6. Where your information is stored

Our website and supporting services are hosted by [hosting provider and country to be confirmed]. Some of our service providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States.

Where information is stored in another country, it is subject to the laws of that country, and it may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement agencies and national security authorities of that country. We use providers that offer appropriate protection, but we cannot exclude that access.

7. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires.

  • Enquiry and battery finder submissions: [retention period to be confirmed, for example 24 months from the date of the enquiry]
  • Account information: for as long as your account is active, and for [period to be confirmed] after you close it
  • Website analytics: [retention period to be confirmed]

When information is no longer needed, we destroy, erase or anonymise it.

8. How we protect it

We use security measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the website, access controls limiting who can see enquiry submissions and account records, and regular software updates to the website and its components.

No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send sensitive personal information, such as financial or identification details, through the contact form. We never ask for that information by email.

9. Your rights

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you, and be told how it has been used and who it has been disclosed to
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Withdraw consent to our continued use of your information, subject to legal and contractual restrictions
  • Complain if you believe we have mishandled your information

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 11. We will respond within 30 days, as PIPEDA requires. We may ask you to verify your identity before we release information, so that we do not disclose your details to someone else.

There is no charge for a routine access request. If a request requires significant work, we will tell you the estimated cost before proceeding and you may withdraw the request.

10. Other points
